Producers of Basketball Games Online Will Hate this New Development

The game of basketball has evolved over the course of its history.

And the same can be said about basketball video games, which started offline on old school consoles like Atari, NES, SNES, Xbox and Playstation and has made their way to becoming basketball games online, whether on Playstation 4, Xbox 1 or on Desktop.

The very first basketball video game was called 'Basketball' and was released in 1972.

I know, very creative right? Haha

Well it was a start.

And it was on a console that very few people have probably heard about.

It was called the Magnavox Odyssey.

I know, what the heck is that right?

I know we probably look at the graphics back then and laugh, but likely pretty advanced for 1972!

So it was a start.

Fast forward to the first video I remember playing as a kid, NBA Live 96 on Super NES!

This game was super fun. It was the first basketball video game I played that had any real resemblance to the game of basketball.

It was so much fun playing with my favorite players, like Michael Jordan of course!

There weren't really any distinctions in how players looked, or in their body language, like with today's video games, but it was a vast improvement over Magnavox Odyssey basketball! Haha

So moving along, there were many basketball games released between 1996 and 2009, but my next favorite basketball game has to be NBA 2K9!

Had tons of fun playing this game with my brothers and friends when I was in grade 9!

This video game was, naturally, much evolved past the simple game play of NBA Live 1996.

You could play 3v3 street ball with your favorite NBA player for example.

You could also create a basketball player named after yourself and determine their skill level.

It was a whole new frontier in gaming.

Now if you look at what today's basketball video games have to offer, yes you have a number of mini basketball games online like Flick basketball and what not, but there's also some pretty amazing games with life-like graphics.

Take for example, NBA Live 2018, released last year.

This game is sick and I love playing it with my younger cousins.

It has street ball mode and sometimes I forget I'm playing a video game because it really does look that really!

My goodness how far video games have come!

But what's coming next in the world of basketball video games?

When I can't spill the beans, but let's just say they are about to get a whole lot more real.

Like as real as it gets.

Could you imagine shooting on your hoop outside and all your made shots feeding into your character skill development in the game.

Could you imagine your character actually getting better as you get better?

Could you imagine competing against others, who aren't using a controller to try to defeat you, but using an actual basketball?

What if playing video games and real basketball were more or less the same, but still allowed you to play against others all around the globe?

Now we're talkin.

Not sure who's going make it or how it'll look exactly, but I've been hearing rumours around the industry that it's being developed.

And apparently it won't be developed by the same video game producers of today. This is really going to disrupt the industry and some people are going to get very mad that they didn't create it!

I'm hoping those rumors come true.

How about you? What are you hoping for in the future of basketball games online?

I hope you're as excited as I am!

The next 46 years of basketball video game evolution will be nothing like the last 46.

It's about to get a whole lot crazier!

For the love of basketball, sure have some fun playing basketball video games, but don't ever play them more than the real thing!

Real basketball all the way!

Anyways, gotta get back to Inventing some cool things for you guys.

Until next time,
